Low Snacks

When a Type 1 Diabetic has a blood glucose that’s too low, they need to have something that will bring it up FAST. The rule is 15/15: 15g of a fast acting something to bring it up quick, and then check again in 15 mins. We usually use glucose tabs to bring it up fast, as they are very portable and aren’t necessarily a “food” item. We can keep them in the vehicles and in a purse for easy access.

Around any holidays, I tend to stock up on some appropriate candy that can also do the same, and might be on clearance after the holiday. Checking these Fun Dips out, they would work too and might be more fun for some as an alternative to juice and such (just make sure its eaten quick enough so you can recheck):

We’ve also used Sweettarts and Smarties, as all 3 of those are dang near regular sugar and not a complex carbohydrate that would interfere with bringing the blood sugar up fast.

What do you use to bring up your blood sugar when you’re low?
