Make Your Own Souvenir - for Less!

Updated: Sep 24, 2019

This year we went on vacation to Florida (hello Disney and Universal!), and while at Universal I was looking for a magent for the fridge with the Hogwarts crest. HOWEVER - the ones I liked were more than I wanted to spend (and we’d already spent about 8 arms and 12 legs on the trip anyways!) I found an embroidered patch that I did like, and it was less than $10! So here’s how I made it into a magnet:

Supplies Needed:

Patch

Glue (I used a gel superglue)

magnet paper - find some here

craft knife or scissors

I started by laying the patch on top of the magnet paper. The magnet paper has some adhesive on it, but I didn’t want to trust just that adhesive as it wouldn’t be strong enough for the patch - its fabulous for paper though. Peel back the paper and expose the adhesive, and stick the patch on there.

I wanted the magnet to cover the entire back of the patch, so it wouldn’t be prone to curling at the edges. I used the craft knife to carefully slice around the patch, making sure I didn’t slice any of the stitching.

Not perfect, but close to it :)

Now bust out that super glue and glue all that you can! I just peeled up the edges and glued underneath. Some edges were stuck good to the magnet paper, so I left those - I’ll be checking it periodically to see if I need to do some fixes.

Tra-la-la! Here’s the finished product!

What’s your favorite thing you’ve made into a magnet, or your favorite souvenir from Universal??

Can’t wait to share more crafting with you!

—Sara :)
